I always knew that I wanted my company to be sustainable. Since I’m self funded and honestly sustaining oneself is hard enough, I wondered how to tackle this one. I figured I could wait until I was making profit or just start by giving a little at a time. Thank goodness that I chose the latter because a little really goes a long way.

About a month ago, I purchased a solar oven and asked for it be donated to anyone deserving in the community of African Moringa farmers that supply me with my product. The final candidate was an elderly woman raising 8 grandchildren on her own because their parents had died of AIDS. I knew it would be helpful but I thought that that was that.

At 4 am this morning I got a call because the entire village had come to witness the giving away of the solar oven. There were celebrating and more and more people were showing up. I am completely and humbly floored by this. I’m inspired and know that this is definitely a key factor in my business model.
